Conservative led Wokingham Borough Council has partnered with Woodley Centre Surgery to hold the Borough’s first Covid-19 vaccination pop-up event open to 16–17-year-olds. The event will take place on Saturday 14 August from 9am- 12pm in the sports hall of The Forest School in Winnersh.

There will only be 220 doses of the Pfizer vaccine available on a first-come-first serve basis. All adults over the age of 16 can come for their first or second dose. Those who have already received their first vaccination will need to have done so eight+ weeks prior if they want to get their second dose. They are reminded to bring along their vaccination card.

Those who are at risk of an Anaphylactic shock will not be eligible to receive the vaccine at this event. They are asked to consult their GP who can advise further on their individual medical needs.

The service is expected to be very busy given it is the first in the borough for this age group, so please anticipate queues and be patient with the team as they continue to roll out the vaccination programme.

Cllr Charles Margetts, the executive member for health, wellbeing, and adult social care said: “We are pleased to be working alongside Woodley Centre Surgery to offer the Pfizer vaccine to 16-17-year-olds ahead of the autumn, when many will be returning to school and college or starting work. Every vaccine makes a difference, and we expect a good turnout for this event as it’s the first in the borough for this cohort.”

As queuing will take place outside, residents are asked to dress appropriately for the weather (bring an umbrella if it is raining and a bottle of water if warm), in case of long waiting times. For those coming by car, there is free parking available on site.

Once the queue reaches maximum capacity, any new arrivals will, unfortunately, be turned away. Please keep an eye on the Wokingham Borough Council Facebook and Twitter pages on Saturday morning for updates.

Dr Rupa Joshi, GP at Woodley Centre Surgery said: “Woodley Centre Surgery is pleased to be working with Wokingham Borough Council to be able to offer the Covid vaccine in the community. It is an excellent opportunity to be able to use The Forest School, and we hope to see many of their students over the age of 16, at the walk-in clinic on Saturday. The council’s continued support in helping the local surgeries deliver the vaccine has gone a huge way to ensuring that the local population can be as safe as possible.”

Anyone not able to get a jab at this site is encouraged to book their first or second dose of the vaccine through the NHS website. More information on how 16 and 17-year-olds can access their vaccine will be available in due course.
