Conservatives from across Berkshire were welcomed by Finchampstead Conservatives to their Annual Dinner on Friday 6 October at Sand Martins Golf Club.

Following the delicious meal, special guest Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP spoke about the current socio-economic climate, about his work to give people a better chance in life and that Conservatives are the party of aspiration.

MP for Chingford and Woodford Green, Iain was the architect of Universal Credit, making it always more worthwhile to be employed than on benefits.

Dinner guests enjoyed the opportunity to question Iain. Cllr Rebecca Margetts who organised the fundraising event said, "members really enjoyed the evening and lively discussions followed about the current state of our borough, the lack of support for local businesses, and residents' concerns about the impact of Council cuts."

Finchampstead will be part of Wokingham constituency at the next general election and John Redwood MP joined his parliamentary colleague, Finchampstead's Conservative councillors and many Conservative campaigners from the surrounding area to enjoy the three course dinner.

John Redwood MP thanked Iain for being the guest of honour and for his passionate speech. John said, "it was an excellent dinner. Iain gave us the benefit of his experiences, told a very amusing story about his time as a senior Minister, and set out how a Labour government would be damaging to our country."
