adoption meeting

The Wokingham Selection Council met on Friday 24 February and passed a motion to adopt John Redwood as the Conservative candidate for the next election.

Following the meeting in Wokingham Town Hall, Wokingham Conservative Association Chairman, Dave Edmonds said: "I am delighted that Sir John Redwood has agreed to seek re-election as the MP for Wokingham.
"John is a fantastic MP who works tirelessly for this community and I have no doubt that he will continue to represent residents’ interests with empathy, integrity and compassion."

Leader of the Wokingham Borough Council Conservative group Cllr Pauline Jorgensen said: "Great news that John Redwood was adopted on Friday to stand at the next General Election.

"I look forward to continue working with John once Wokingham Borough has just two MPs rather than the current four.

"John is our champion in Westminster and fights hard for Wokingham's residents."

The Selection Council comprised representatives from the different parts of the new Wokingham seat. It did not include representatives from the parts of the present constituency that pass to new seats being formed.

The new Wokingham constituency loses its wards in West Berkshire, Earley and Shinfield. It gains Remenham, Wargrave, Ruscombe, Hurst, Twyford and Charvil from Maidenhead, and Wokingham Without, Finchampstead North and Finchampstead South from Bracknell.

These are places that are in Wokingham Borough and have in the past been in the Wokingham Parliamentary constituency. John Redwood represented the Northern wards and Wokingham Without when first elected to Parliament.

The new seat will no longer include wards from two different Unitary Councils. It will mean no ward of Wokingham has a boundary with Reading.
