your vote matters

During the next few weeks you’ll be receiving either an email, a text, or a letter from Wokingham Borough Council asking  if your electoral registration details are up to date. If they are not it could mean you won’t be able to vote and will therefore lose your voice on important local decisions affecting you.

With the Wokingham Borough elections this year postponed due to Covid-19, and now due to take place next May, this is a perfect opportunity to make sure you can take part.

The annual canvass enables the council to keep the electoral register up to date as well as identifying anyone not registered or any changes to households or those who have recently moved. This year, as part of the government’s canvass reform programme, WBC will also be using electronic communications such as emails and texts, to make the process simpler at the beginning of August or September.

If you want to register, the easiest way is online - click here.

You are particularly encouraged to check your details if you have recently moved. Electoral Commission research shows recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time. Nationally, 92% of people who have been at their property for more than 16 years will be registered compared to 36% who have lived at an address for less than a year.

If you have any questions about the annual canvass or voting in general, email the WBC electoral services team at: [email protected].
