covid info champion initiative

Great news that Conservativev led Wokingham Borough Council has launched its new Covid Community Information Champion initiative; inviting members of the public to help their communities stay up to date with the latest information on Covid-19 across the Borough.

The council’s Champions will be given helpful insights, key messages and accurate information about Covid-19 via email, which they can then share with their community networks to help them make sense of the latest news and information about the virus; and make informed choices that protect themselves and their loved ones.

Keeping communities informed

Cllr Charles Margetts, executive member for health, wellbeing and adult services said: “Our core aim is to keep our residents safe. The Covid-19 pandemic will continue to impact our community now and in the future, so we feel it’s important to find new ways to keep residents up to date with the latest advice and information.

“That’s why we’ve introduced our Covid Community Information Champions initiative. By ensuring that everyone in the borough has the up to date and  accurate information they need to safely go about their day-to-day life, we can truly strive to be in it together. We’re looking to local councillors and key figures across our Town and Parish Councils and voluntary sector to sign up; but anyone can be a community champion and receive our regular, easy-to-digest emails, which they can then relay back to their friends and family or wider contacts, however they see fit.”

How it works

Champions will be given an initial pack which covers key elements such as social distancing guidance, self-isolation rules, the help available from Wokingham Borough Community Response, mental health support and more. This is a voluntary position, where champions will also be able to feedback on any points that need further clarification, or areas that their community network are unsure of.
