12 months of Wokingham Borough Community Response

The Wokingham Borough Community Response was launched one year ago, to give residents a fast and easy way to access any support they might need in lockdown and beyond.

The Conservative-led council has been working closely with a number of local voluntary organisations, to ensure nobody gets left behind. Here are some of the key achievements over the past year:

  • In March last year, we quickly set-up a food distribution hub, making 5,000 deliveries to 1,500 residents
  • In addition to this, the team delivered over 900 prescriptions during the first lockdown
  • Local neighbourhood support groups were set up to support the shielded and vulnerable in their communities, fulfilling thousands of requests
  • We’ve made over 19,000 regular welfare and befriending calls to vulnerable, isolated, and shielding residents
  • Citizens Advice have also answered over 10,000 calls: giving general advice and support, and referring callers to relevant charities and groups across the borough
  • Over 500 volunteers have been working at our vaccination clinics and 200 have signed up to help at our rapid testing centres
  • We’ve helped settle home 200 Wokingham residents who have been discharged from Royal Berkshire Hospital since the start of the pandemic

From all of us, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has played a part in the Wokingham Borough Community Response. We are continuing to support our residents, so if you need help, please contact One Front Door, led by Citizens Advice Wokingham, on 0808 278 7958 or visit the website.
