Pauline Jorgensen - Conservative-led Wokingham Borough Council's Exec member for Highways - is delighted to share the news that our annual road maintenance programme for 2020-21 is now complete, with more than £6million invested across the area.

  • More than 130 roads across Wokingham Borough have seen improvements in the last year.
  • Work has been targeted to take place during lockdown periods since last April to make the most of quieter roads and reduce disruption for residents.
  • The improved roads were chosen based on WBC data from surveys and inspections carried out continually on our roads.

Spending on areas where it's needed

It means money has been spent where it’s needed most, rather than being allocated on a regional or ward by ward basis.

Completion of the programme means over the last two years and the plans for the next financial year will see more than £13million has been invested, or earmarked for investment, in road maintenance since 2019.

Throughout 2020-21 we’ve made the most of lockdowns to carry out improvements on the borough’s roads when they are quietest, keeping disruption to a minimum for residents.

We continue to invest in the borough’s roads and maintaining them to the highest standards we can, to help keep journeys smooth for motorists and cyclists across our area.

Investing in the borough's roads

Our annual series of road maintenance works is part of a wider investment in the borough’s roads.

These includes the council’s £124 million major highways programme and new or improved park and ride car parks and services across the area.

The council is continuing its project to spend £20 million in tackling congestion over the next few years.

Pauline Jorgensen is standing for re-election in Hillside ward in Earley.
