road repairs

Councillor Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for highways and transport, said: “We know that moving around the borough easily and having good quality roads are important to our residents.

“We are excited to be putting the final touches to the programme, creating an even better road network.

"We know that programmes like these cause short term disruption to drivers. Unfortunately,  we can’t make the necessary repairs that people want and need without short-term closures.

“This year, we will be investing another £4.2 million in our road network. Our roads are in the top quarter of local authority maintained roads, and this investment is sure to keep them there.”

Each year, Wokingham Borough Council invests millions of pounds repairing roads across the borough through its annual maintenance programme. Roads are assessed and monitored throughout the year using a range of techniques, which informs the plan for the coming year.

In 2021/22, 88 roads were repaired, with more than half of these being fully resurfaced. The remaining ones were treated either with microasphalt or surface dressing; both schemes are designed to increase the lifespan of a road by up to ten years.

The details of our £4.2 million planned resurfacing programme for 2022/23 are being finalised and will be published later this Spring, with over 120 resurfacing projects forming part of the annual maintenance campaign due to start in May 2022.

In addition to this, the council spends around £1.7 million annually on fixing problems as they occur, such as potholes.
