EW selection meeting with PJ

Earley and Woodley Conservatives have selected local champion Pauline Jorgensen to be their Conservative candidate at the next General Election

Leader of Wokingham Borough Conservative Group and local champion, Pauline Jorgensen, was selected as the Conservative candidate for the new Earley and Woodley Parliamentary constituency at a meeting on Friday (23.06.23).

Pauline, who has lived in Earley for 39 years, is currently Leader of the Conservative Group on Wokingham Borough Council, which forms a major part of the new constituency, and is a Borough and Town councillor for Earley.

She has a track record of delivering for residents and has held roles including lead councillor for highways and transport.

As an active local champion Pauline was a leading member of the Conservative team which delivered improvements for residents to roads, libraries, schools, leisure centres and parks in Earley and Woodley. These include:

  • Tripled the road maintenance budget, ensuring that more funds were available to improve residential streets in Earley, Woodley and Sonning
  • Improvements to Loddon Valley Leisure Centre and secured £2million in investment to refurbish and enhance its facilities.
  • Developed the fantastic new leisure Centre in Bulmershe
  • Opened ‘Fosters’ the new local authority run care home in Woodley
  • Brought a new Pavilion, skate park and children’s play area to Sol Joel Park
  • Delivered improvements to Meadow Park and was instrumental in the creation of a new BMX track off Paddock Drive
  • Drove the delivery of affordable, wheelchair accessible homes at Gorse Ride and Finch Road.
  • Secured improvements to Libraries, reducing their running costs to be able to increase opening hours
  • As a member of the 3rd Thames Crossing Group, she sought to reduce congestion in Sonning and protect the historic bridge

As Leader of the Conservative Group she has campaigned to protect the Borough from unsustainable development, and to stop Lib Dem plans to double car parking charges and introduce fortnightly bin collections.

Pauline is also a Trustee of the British Airways Benevolent Fund which relieves poverty and provides support to BA staff, pensioners and their families.

Pauline has a background in aviation and IT and lives with her husband in Earley, they have a grown-up son.

The new constituency is made up of parts of the former Wokingham and Reading East, Reading West and Maidenhead parliamentary seat. It stretches from Sonning to Shinfield and includes the Church and Whitley wards of Reading.

Pauline said, “I am truly honoured and delighted to have been chosen as the Conservative candidate. Earley has been my home for nearly four decades. Residents frequently contact me about problems and difficulties they are experiencing, I am always happy to help. I have spent years championing our area and standing up for residents as a Town councillor and as a Borough councillor.

“I am excited about the challenge ahead and am looking forward to continue meeting and listening to residents.”
