Protect Wokingham's Green Belt
Say NO to unnecessary development across Wokingham's Green Belt
Wokingham Borough's Green Belt is one of our greatest assets. It protects the character of our towns and villages, provides valuable wildlife habitats, prevents urban sprawl, and gives residents access to the countryside that makes our borough such a special place to live.
Once Green Belt is built on, it is lost forever.
Wokingham Borough Council has recently announced a ‘call for sites’ as part of its build out of a new Local Plan. We believe that every effort should be made to protect our Green Belt from unnecessary development and to prioritise brownfield land and previously developed sites wherever possible before considering the loss of our open countryside.
We, the undersigned, call on Wokingham Borough Council to:
- Oppose unnecessary development on Green Belt land across the borough.
- Prioritise brownfield and previously developed sites before considering Green Belt release.
- Ensure that all major planning decisions are supported by the infrastructure needed, including roads, GP surgeries, schools and public transport.
- Work with residents and local communities to protect the character of our towns and villages.
- Defend our valued countryside, wildlife habitats and green spaces for future generations.
Why this matters
Development on the Green Belt has lasting consequences.
It can:
- Change the character and identity of local communities.
- Increase pressure on already congested roads.
- Place additional demand on schools, GP surgeries and other local services.
- Reduce biodiversity and wildlife habitats.
- Erode the green spaces that separate our towns and villages.
The Green Belt exists for a reason. It should only be altered in genuinely exceptional circumstances.
If you believe Wokingham's Green Belt should be protected for future generations, please sign this petition by completing the form below and help send a clear message that our countryside matters.
